Make the container actually deployable, publish to GHCR

The Docker setup built but never came up. Three separate blockers, each
found by running the full compose stack against a real Postgres:

- The runner stage hand-copied prisma/@prisma/dotenv, which misses the
  CLI's transitive deps (valibot) and crash-looped the entrypoint. A
  dedicated migrator stage now installs the CLI at the exact lockfile
  version with its real dependency tree.
- Docker sets HOSTNAME to the container id and Next's standalone server
  binds to it verbatim, so the app was unreachable on localhost inside
  the container and the healthcheck could never pass. Pinned to 0.0.0.0.
- openssl was missing from the build stages but present at runtime, so
  Prisma detected a different platform and tried to download a matching
  query engine at boot, as an unprivileged user, into a root-owned
  directory. Aligned openssl across every stage that touches Prisma.

Verified from a clean volume: migrations apply, both containers report
healthy, /api/health returns 200, and the app serves from the image.

Also:
- Publish multi-arch images to GHCR on push to main and on v* tags, with
  an SBOM and a signed provenance attestation.
- Default compose to the published image; add a build override for
  working on the app itself. Host port and image are configurable.
- Drop two unused dependencies: canvas (19MB of native node-canvas; the
  pipeline uses @napi-rs/canvas) and multer (routes use formData()).
- Add a root .gitignore. There wasn't one, so a real .env was one
  `git add .` away from being committed. Untrack .DS_Store.
- Rewrite the README around what the tool does and how to run it.

# XRayPDF
XRayPDF is a web app for sanitizing PDFs by extracting suspicious hidden content and producing cleaner outputs.
**Get the invisible text out of your PDFs.**
Instead of only "finding" hidden text, the pipeline is designed to help you remove or neutralize hidden layers by generating processed page images and exportable PDFs.
A PDF can carry text that no human ever sees and every machine reads in full:
white ink on white paper, 0.5pt type, paragraphs parked outside the crop box,
a text run hidden behind a full-page image. It renders as nothing. It copies,
pastes, and extracts at full length.
## What the app does
XRayPDF surfaces that content, shows you what it found, and hands back a file
with none of it left.
- Uploads a PDF (up to 10MB)
- Renders each page server-side into images
- Runs pixel sanitization on each page to neutralize low-contrast/hidden overlays
- Runs per-page Tesseract OCR for text verification
- Lets you review outputs in a 3-panel viewer (Original / Pixel / OCR)
- Lets you download per-page files or convert processed pages into a single PDF

## Extraction + removal workflow
## Where PDFs keep text you never agreed to send
1. **Render original pages**
- Each PDF page is rasterized to a PNG on the server.
- This gives a deterministic image baseline for analysis.
| Hiding place | Why you miss it | What the pipeline does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| White text on white paper | Invisible on screen and in print | Contrast normalization drags it into visible gray |
| Near-zero font sizes | 0.5pt reads as a smudge | Renders at 2× scale, so the smudge becomes glyphs |
| Text behind images | Looks like a scan; it isn't | Flattening rebuilds the page from what's visible |
| Invisible render modes | Render mode 3 draws nothing at all | The export drops the text layer entirely |
| Content parked off-page | Outside the crop box, never displayed | Cropped away by the render, gone from the export |
| Leftover revision data | Incremental saves keep old drafts alive | Not carried over — the export is a fresh document |
2. **Pixel sanitization (removal path)**
- Every rendered page goes through image processing (`sharp`):
- flatten alpha to white background
- grayscale
- normalize contrast
- sharpen edges
- Goal: make suspicious low-contrast hidden layers obvious and easier to remove/ignore in sanitized exports.
## How it works
3. **OCR verification (trust but verify)**
- Tesseract runs page-by-page on server-rendered images.
- OCR text output helps validate what was present, even when visuals are ambiguous.
- If a processed image is not convincing, use OCR text as the secondary evidence channel.
There is no model and no classifier deciding what looks suspicious. Four
deterministic steps, and the last one removes the hiding places rather than
trying to enumerate every trick.
4. **Download + PDF conversion**
- Download all per-page PNG/TXT files directly.
- Use the **PDF** button (Original and Pixel panels) to convert page images into one downloadable PDF.
1. **Rasterize every page** — `pdfjs-dist` renders each page to a PNG at 2×
scale on a forced white background, via `@napi-rs/canvas`. This is the
honest picture of the document: whatever is actually drawn, and nothing else.
2. **Push the contrast** — `sharp` flattens alpha onto white, converts to
grayscale, stretches the histogram across the full 0–255 range, and
sharpens. Ink that was one shade off white lands in plain view.
3. **Read it back with OCR** — `tesseract.js` runs over the sanitized image and
returns word boxes with per-word confidence, which the viewer overlays on
the page. Low-confidence clusters are where hidden content usually surfaces:
faint ink OCRs worse than real body copy.
4. **Export a flat PDF** — `pdf-lib` rebuilds the document from the page
images. No text layer, no annotations, no object history.
## How to use OCR output to find hidden text
**The trade:** a flattened export is no longer searchable or selectable. Keep
the original when you need the text layer; send the clean copy when you don't
know what's in the file.
If the image result looks unclear:
## Run it
- Open the OCR panel and inspect text per page.
- Check low-confidence pages manually in the image panels.
- Compare OCR text against expected visible text from the original.
- Unexpected words, extra lines, or mismatched answers can indicate hidden content that the eye missed.
### From the published image
## Stack
Multi-arch images (`linux/amd64`, `linux/arm64`) are published to GHCR on every
push to `main`:
- Next.js App Router
- Prisma + PostgreSQL
- NextAuth (Google)
- `pdfjs-dist` for PDF parsing
- `@napi-rs/canvas` for server-side rendering
- `sharp` for image processing
- `tesseract.js` for OCR
- `pdf-lib` for image-to-PDF export
```bash
docker pull ghcr.io/geneticglitch1/xraypdf:latest
```
## Local development
Tags: `latest`, `sha-<commit>`, and `v1.2.3` / `v1.2` on release tags.
### Full stack with compose
Brings up Postgres alongside the app, applies migrations on boot, and persists
uploads in a named volume:
```bash
cp .env.example .env # then fill in NEXTAUTH_SECRET + Google OAuth creds
docker compose up -d
```
The app listens on <http://localhost:3000>. Set `HOST_PORT` in `.env` to publish
somewhere else, and `XRAY_IMAGE` to pin a specific tag or digest.
To build from source instead of pulling:
```bash
docker compose -f docker-compose.yml -f docker-compose.build.yml up -d --build
```
### Required configuration
| Variable | Purpose |
| --- | --- |
| `DATABASE_URL` | Postgres connection string |
| `NEXTAUTH_SECRET` | NextAuth session signing key — generate a long random string |
| `NEXTAUTH_URL` | Public URL the app is served from |
| `GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID` / `GOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRET` | Google OAuth credentials |
| `STORAGE_DIR` | Where uploads and page images are written (`/app/storage` in the image) |
| `HOST_PORT` | Host port for compose to publish (default `3000`) |
| `XRAY_IMAGE` | Image compose runs (default `ghcr.io/geneticglitch1/xraypdf:latest`) |
`GET /api/health` is an unauthenticated liveness endpoint; compose uses it as
the container healthcheck.

## Production Docker
## Limits
Build:
- 10 MB per upload, 5 documents per user (oldest is evicted).
- OCR is English-only; `eng.traineddata` is committed under `client/tessdata`
so the container never fetches a language pack at runtime.
- Uploads and rendered pages are stored on disk under `STORAGE_DIR`, outside
`public/`, and are served only through authenticated API routes.
- The runtime image is ~870 MB. Most of that is the Prisma CLI, which the
entrypoint needs for `migrate deploy` and which eagerly loads its Studio
dependency tree even for that command.
```bash
cd client
